The Mandarin Ducks of Takihata Dam
|

|
The multipurpose Takihata Dam
was completed in November of 1979, with the surrounding land
being redeveloped to create a "natural recreation village"
which now includes a campground, a promenade, a fishing pond,
and a restaurant. It is well known for its beautiful lake that
is encircled by a green curtain of forest, and every year migratory
birds can be seen touching down on its waters. It is especially
popular with the Mandarin Ducks that fly in towards the end
of October, and stay until around the beginning of March the
following year. As they glide upon the lake's surface, the ducks
resemble the fallen leaves of the Ginkgo tree, which complements
the elegant beauty of the area.
