The autumn maples of Emmeiji Temple

This temple, where Kobo Daishi is said to have
carved a stone image of Buddha and placed it here for the propagation
of the Buddhist religion, is also a famous landmark thanks to
the stunning reds and golds of its trees in autumn. One huge
maple tree, known as "Yusho Momiji", was named for
its warm, radiating glow when touched by the rays of the setting
sun. This tree is said to be around 1000 years old, and has
been designated as a natural monument by the Osaka Prefectural
Government.
